Step 1

Trace length onto wood
Measure ladder for desired length

Measure ladder for desired length

You need:

Measure your ladder and identify the desired length for each shelf. Then, measure and mark your wooden planks to these lengths. We decided to use a 4' rustic ladder and five barn-wood planks to give our finished piece an earthy appearance. The size of your ladder and your desired shelf lengths will influence the size and number of wood planks you acquire for this project. Our design featured planks at the specifications listed below. Shelf Specifications (1) Top Step Shelf: 1" x 12" x 24" (2) Middle Step Shelves: 1" x 6" x 41" (2) Bottom Step Shelves: 1" x 6" x 57"

Step 2

Cutting wood with US500 Wood cutting wheel

You need:

Mount the US500 Wood Cutting Wheel accessory onto your Dremel Ultra-Saw™ tool. Clamp your wooden planks and cut along the length marks made in Step 1 to create the foundation for each shelf.

Use circle cutter guide for accuracy
Finished cut hole on wood
Cut holes with dremel 4200 toll

You need:

If you would like to cut holes in the shelves to house flower pots, complete this step for each hole you intend to create. Mark a point and surrounding circle where you would like the hole to be. Be sure to set it's diameter to be less than that of your pot's lip. We decided to create a 4" pot hole in our top step shelf. Cut along your marked circular lines using the Dremel 4200 tool. Start by attaching the Circle Cutter Guide to your tool and inserting the 561 Multipurpose Cutting Bit. Plunge into your mark in the center of the circle to create a pilot hole. Then, set the diameter of your guide to that of the marked circle (in our case that was 4") and begin cutting with your tool set to full speed. Cut in a clockwise direction using consistent, moderate pressure.

Step44

Step 4

Add wooden shelves to ladder

You need:

Fit your wooden shelves into the ladder. If you added holes to the shelves in Step 3, place your potted plants into the cut holes. Optional: Affix your shelves to the steps of the ladder for added stability. We decided not to complete this step on our piece to enable convenient storage and transportation.
