Rustic twist on the typical jewelry box

    Introduction

    This week's project is a rustic twist on the typical jewelry box. Add a personal, handmade touch to this year's Valentine's gift with this wooden ring box.

    Using a pencil trace your desired design for the top of the box

    First, Source your wood & cut. We cut ours 1" for the lid and 2" for the base.

    Using an engraver and carving bit trace your design in the wood

    Next, create your design and transfer it to your lid.

    Hollow out the wood piece for the container with your rotary tool

    Then, using your Dremel VersaTip, burn your design into the lid.

    Hammer a nail on one side of the box to secure both pieces together

    Next, Wearing safety glasses and a mask, use your Dremel 4000 and a 7123 Diamond Wheel Point to make a "well" for your ring to rest in.

    Make sure the top slides easily and continue customizing as you like

    You need:

    Finally, create the hinge/ pivot point for your ring box by tapping a 4d 1 ½" finish nail flush through the lid and into the lip of the base of the box. That's it, now you can surprise that special someone with a custom designed jewelry box.

    To reduce the risk of injury user must read instruction manuals for all tools used in this project. Wear eye and respiratory protection. Use clamps to support work piece whenever practical.
