Storage Step Tool

Begin by using the Dremel Ultra-Saw and wood cutting wheel to cut the MDF into landing boards, and hinge support pieces out of the 3/4" wood to the following dimensions: • (2) Landing pieces: 8.5” x 18.5” • (1) Hinge support: 1.5” x 18.5”

Next, continuing to use the Ultra-Saw, cut out the pieces for the top section of the step stool to the following dimensions: • (2) Front & Back pieces: 5.5“ x 16.5“ • (2) Side pieces: 5.5“ x 10“ • (1) Bottom piece: 8.5“ x 16.5“

Still using the Ultra-Saw, cut the wood into the following dimensions to create the bottom section of the step stool: • (2) Front & Back pieces: 5.5“ x 18“ • (2) Side pieces: 5.5“ x 16.5“ • (2) Cross supports: 2.5“ x 16.5“

Using the cut boards from step 3, assemble the bottom of the step stool using the image as a guide. Place the cross supports in the middle to act as an anchor, about 10 inches from the back edge. Attach the pieces together with glue and finishing nails.

Next, using the cut boards from step 2 and the image as a guide, assemble the top of the step stool. Attach the pieces with wood glue and finishing nails.

Then, taking the top portion created in step 5, drill 3/4" holes 1‘ from the top edge and 3“ from the both ends of the board. Using the Dremel Multi-Max, cut out the wood between the holes to form a handle slot. Repeat this on the opposite side so there are handles on both ends.

Continuing to use the MM30, replace the wood cutting accessory with a sanding pad, and smooth down the handles of the stool.

Next, attach the preassembled top portion of the stool to the preassembled bottom with 1 1/2" screws in all 4 corners.

Using wood glue and screws, attach the bottom landing piece previously cut in step 1 to the bottom portion of the stool that remains open. Then, attach the hinge support piece cut in step 1 to the top of stool, as seen in the image, with glue and nails.

Finally, with the drill, attach 2 hinges to the last remaining piece of wood, the top landing piece. Line up the landing piece with the support piece added to the stool in step 9 and attach the hinges to the support board. Decorate the stool with paint, let dry, and use the stool for storage.
