Add Depth and Texture to Fine Woodworking with Ease
MOUNT PROSPECT, Ill., June 27, 2005 — Adding elegance to any piece of fine woodworking, inlays of exotic wood, metal and other materials showcases the artistry of the craftsman. But instead of using a router, wood artisans are taking their Dremel rotary tool for a spin with the Dremel Plunge Router attachment.
The Plunge Router attachment works with all corded Dremel rotary tools, providing it with a stable attachment to achieve precise routing depth and greater control
“Inlays of specialty woods, pearl or other accents can transform a woodworking project from beautiful to a work of art,” said Andrea Ash, director of marketing communications for Dremel. “The Plunge Router attachment turns a high-speed Dremel rotary tool into a lightweight and nimble mini-router that’s better for inlays and other intricate work.”
To add decorative inlay or marquetry to a flat surface piece, use the Plunge Router Attachment above the area to rout. Using the first of the two depth-stops, rout out the area to fill with the inlay of choice, which can also be cut out using the Plunge Router Attachment. The quick release feature of the depth stop allows for rapid adjustment of the routing depth.
Continue to rout the area with progressively deeper cuts until the appropriate depth for the inlay is completed. For marquetry inlays, use the circle-cutting guide to create the appropriate circle on the wood surface. To create the artistry of the wood design inlay, use the Dremel tool to fit together complementary woods to create an attractive design. Strip veneers and edge guides
The Dremel Plunge Router Attachment (#335, retail price $29.95) is compatible with the Dremel rotary tool models #275, #285, #395, #398 and the new Dremel 400 Series XPR.
